Sometimes the simplest things are the most satisfying. My husband’s birthday is this week and as always, I offer to make him anything his heart desires. And as always, he asks for Rice Krispie Treats. He won’t even let me get creative with them and brown the butter, add a hint of nutmeg or throw in items like butterscotch or chocolate chips. He wants them made the “real way” as he calls it with just melted butter and marshmallows added to the cereal. I barely got them on the plate last night with a simple lit birthday candle before he was grabbing one and nibbling away. The look on his face said it all: Perfection!

Rice Krispie Treats
Yield: 12-15 squares
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 (10-ounce) package miniature marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispie cereal
Place the butter in a large saucepan over medium-low heat. When melted, add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from the heat and stir in the cereal. Transfer to a greased 13×9-inch casserole dish, pressing evenly. Cool completely and cut into squares.
