Portion Packs
My husband came home from the supermarket the other day with 12 samples of portion packs that were being given away as a promotion. These are small zip-top bags with measurement markings on the side for 1/4 to 1 cup. I had seen them before but it never peaked my interest for some reason. I just always thought that I could easily measure out the amounts and place in a regular bag. But since he gave me them, I wanted to give them a try.
First, I tested the markings because I wondered if it truly was accurate. To my surprise, it was! I experimented with a variety of different foods and ingredients and each time it hit the exact line on the bag. Since my garden is going crazy with bell peppers, I decided to use the samples for bagging them chopped and ready to use later in the fall for my Green Tomato Relish. What a breeze! Instead of measuring in a cup and transferring to a bag to label. I just chopped and added to the 1 cup mark and sealed. Then I placed these perfectly portioned bags in a large zip-top freezer bag to wait for the end of the gardening season in my freezer. It was fast and easy!
The portion packs are sold at our local Publix and Kroger, but also available online. For less than $10 you can get 75 bags.
