Liqueurs are interesting spirits that can be infused with any number of interesting flavors. In a recent taste test, a group of friends got to compare Godiva Caramel Liqueur to Jackson Morgan Salted Caramel Liqueur. Both are around the same price point at the liquor store and I have to admit I had my suspicions as to which would be the best going into the experiment. Both are excellent and a great way to end any meal. I served each alone after a roasted chicken meal that also was a rainy evening. To eliminate bias, I did not let any know which was which until after each selected their favorite. The unanimous winner was Jackson Morgan. I was just as surprised as you probably are.
Godiva won on the look of the liqueur and after the brown bags were removed, the presentation in the bottle as well. It looked more like caramel traditionally appears and the aroma was exceptional. There was just a hint of chocolate, but it was clearly caramel on the palette. Then along came Jackson Morgan, which didn’t look as appealing as the Godiva. It was lighter in color and a bit thinner in consistency. But the flavor was off the charts, with the recipe near perfection. It was sweet without being syrupy and everyone wanted a second glass.
If you are looking for an easy and nice crescendo to top off dinner and leave your guests smacking their lips, this liqueur is beautiful!
