If you’re like me, and you like “Greek” restaurants, you’ve probably eaten at many gyro places over the years. I’ve eaten at several – some good, some great, and some just okay. I can assure you, however, House of Kabob is a cut above the rest.

First of all, it’s a full-service restaurant. They have a wait staff who will take your order and bring your food. No ordering at the counter. In fact, I don’t recall seeing a counter…or the kitchen, as you would at most gyro places.

House of Kabob is an authentic Persian restaurant, and one of Nashville’s oldest. They serve dishes made with fresh ingredients, including such favorites as Lamb Shank, Cornish Hen, Koobideh, and Chicken Soltani. And don’t worry, they also serve their famous beef and chicken kabob sticks.

The restaurant is owned by Hamid Hasan and his brother, who serves as the chef. The decor is very nice, and the service is fantastic. From the minute you walk in, you’ll know this place is different from your usual gyro restaurant.

We recently had a Haute Flavor employee meeting there, which is a fancy way of saying that Tammy and I met for lunch to discuss the web site. The location was her suggestion, and I’m very glad she mentioned it.

Tammy had the Junior Salmon Kabob with green rice and shirazi salad (tomato and cucumbers with onion and lemon juice), and she was kind enough to share her salmon with me. It was every bit as good as the salmon I grilled tonight for dinner which, just between you and me, is saying something.

I had the Junior Chicken Gyro plate, which is – as you would expect – gyro meet with a chicken kabob, white rice, and shirazi salad. I think it’s safe to say, it’s the best combo gyro plate I’ve ever had. The chicken was moist and have a very good grilled flavor. The gyro meet was cooked to perfection.

My son happened to be with us that day, as well, and he had the Junior Gyro plate, which was similar to our meals, but with gyro meet only. He loved it and is ready to go back.

I couldn’t wait to get home and tell Michelle about it. We will definitely be going back to House of Kabob.
