Grilled Burgers

Grills just want to have fun!

Everyone loves a good, juicy burger. On a recent trip to the supermarket, I was overwhelmed by the huge array of ground meats and decided to do an experiment in the burger department. I purchased packages of ground beef, pork, turkey and chicken to see which I truly liked the best. There were significant differences in prices, but I managed to find 1-1/2 pound packages of each. Individually, I liked them all, but wanted to cook them all at one time on the grill. The additions were the same … just salt and pepper. And they were served with the same usual adornments of lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mayonnaise, mustard and cheese. To my complete and utter shock, the ground pork unanimously won the taste test. It was simply great burger that beat out the others hands down! I encourage you to reach for it the next time you shop and try it yourself.

There really is no recipe. I just added 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper to the meat and patted them out, making the indention in the center with a spoon. Then I added them to a medium hot grill and cooked for about 6 minutes on each side. Check for doneness with an instant-read thermometer and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving with your favorite toppings. Happy grilling!
